Johnny Cecotto and Gianfranco Brancatelli 1987 WTCC BMW M4 livery for the Gran Turismo BMW M4 Gr.4.
Based on the CiBiEmme Sport BMW M3 used in the 1987 World Touring Car Championship.
The car was driven by Ricardo Patrese and Johnny Cecotto at Monza where they finished in first place before all of the factory-backed cars were excluded for irregularities in the body shells (the works Eggenberger Sierras had already been denied a start for having engine management systems deemed illegal).
For the remainder of the season the car was shared by Cecotto and Gianfranco Brancatelli with the exception of Spa where they were joined by Italian Mauro Baldi.
The crew picked up a 1st overall finish in the Dijon round and finished as the first placed WTCC entrant at Bathurst after the exclusion of the Eggenberger cars.
With the Group A period being my favourite period of Touring Car Racing the lack of cars from that period meant that I built a number of liveries based on the cars under the title of “Project Group A”. Principally as a way of forcing my Adobe Illustrator skills to improve and so I could pull in liveries of that period onto their modern counterparts.
