Audi Sport UK 1983 Darryl Weidner and Mike Greasley

Darryl Weidner

Born during 1950 in London, Darryl Weidner has extensive competition experience and a four-year grounding in club events.

He temporarily retired at the tender age of 25 to establish his own company in Newcastle upon Tyne, Clearlite Structural Glazing. And having made that a healthy concern Darryl returned to his favourite sport in 1981.

With a Malcolm Wilson prepared Group 4 Ford Escort he set out on a challenging national rally programme to regain his ‘feel’ for rallying.

A successful businessman Darryl decided for 1983 to tackle both the Shell Oils/Autosport and BTRDA national rally championships, and elected to buy the ex-Hannu Mikkola Audi Quattro used for the 1982 British Open Rally Championship.

With this car he has gained invaluable four-wheel drive experience, currently leads the Shell Oils/Autosport series and holds a strong second place in the BTRDA championship.

Mike Greasley

From North Wales, Mike Greasley was born in 1948 and has been involved with rallying since the tender age of 14 when he took to guiding local drivers around in restricted events.

Mike is Rally Editor for the Teesdale Publishing Group, which owns both Motoring News and Motor Sport.

His competition experience as a co-driver includes working with Roger Clark, Chris Sclater, John Taylor, Pentti Airikkala and last year with Malcolm Wilson in an Audi Quattro, and he has also had team management involvement with Datsun.

Most recently Mike edited the highly praised new rally annual, Rallycourse and in 1983 is covering World Rally Championship events for Motoring News.

He has been co-driver for current German champion Harald Demuth on the previous two British Open Rally Championship rounds in the Audi 80 Quattro.
